Washington, D.C. (October 11, 2017) – The Vicente Ferrer Foundation USA celebrated a year of incredible achievements to empower rural communities in India with an event ‘Recipe for Empowerment’ presented by ‘la Caixa Banking Foundation’, V-Care Charitable Trust, Grapes of Spain, Biscayne Brewing Company, and Williams & Humbert with more than 300 event attendees committed to lifting up rural communities.


Celebrities, philanthropists, social changemakers and dignitaries celebrated VFF USA with food, entertainment, auction items and a keynote address from Merin Rajadurai, Chairman, Secretary of State Open Forum at U.S. State Department featuring the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES). The theme of GES is “Women First, Prosperity for All”. Mr. Rajadurai shared the inspiring need to invest in women, not only so they can do better, but also so that countries can do better. VFF USA and GES empower innovators, particularly women, to take their ideas to the next level. ‘Recipe for Empowerment’ gave a platform to women’s security, prosperity, and peace.

The event received more than $100,000 of donations including the labor of love of each DC’s best chefs, donated wine from Grapes of Spain, donated beer from Biscayne Brewing Company, and donated brandy from Williams- Humbert. In addition to the $100,000 donated to VFF USA the more than 300 attendees raised $54,230.

VFF USA is thrilled to partner with “la Caixa” Foundation on this successful event. “la Caixa” Foundation has over 110 years of experience contributing to the advancement of society and is based in Spain. They bring an exciting depth of social impact experience to benefit the ongoing mission of VFF USA. In 2011 “la Caixa” Foundation opened an office in Washington DC to further their impact globally.


After working together on previous initiatives, both organizations will have a powerful impact on improving the lives for individuals across the globe “la Caixa” Foundation has a wonderful history with the Vicente Ferrer Foundation in Spain and India and this event marks an exciting time for women’s empowerment and child welfare programs with the Vicente Ferrer global network for years to come” states Board President, Moncho Ferrer.

The support at the event will help VFF USA invest in rural development alongside a new group of 17 angel investors that attended the event and pledged to sponsor a child with VFF USA. VFF USA sponsored children serve as “Ambassadors” to their village where 100% of funds are awarded to their communities so they can prioritize programs. VFF USA partners directly with grassroots communities to help them achieve their development goals. All funds raised throughout the evening will be invested in the construction of homes for marginalized families, water purification systems, and scholarship opportunities for students.

The ‘Recipe For Empowerment’ event marks the second anniversary of the Washington DC office for Vicente Ferrer Foundation, who have dedicated more than 48 years maintaining the legacy of their founder’s mission to empower rural communities in India. Guests enjoyed dishes conceived and presented by top Indian, Spanish and American chefs from the D.C. area, to symbolize the intertwined global mission of the Vicente Ferrer Foundation.
